Skilled Worker needs a job offer from a Home Office-licensed sponsor first — there's no route to apply without one. Once you have an offer, your employer issues a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and you apply using it. The real gates are the salary (the highest of the general threshold, your occupation's specific 'going rate', or a lower discounted threshold if you qualify for one) and, as of January 2026, a materially tougher English requirement.
Cost: £769–£1,846 depending on role/length, plus the Immigration Health Surcharge (usually £1,035/year per applicant)
