Naturalisation is the final step after settlement: you need to have held Indefinite Leave to Remain (or equivalent settled status) for at least 12 months (waived entirely if you're married to a British citizen, who only needs 3 years' total UK residence instead of 5), pass the Life in the UK test, meet the same B1 English requirement as settlement, and satisfy the Home Office's 'good character' assessment.
Cost: £1,709 application + £130 citizenship ceremony fee = £1,839 total (from 8 April 2026)
