Getting into Saudi Arabia for work is still employer-initiated — you need a genuine job offer and an employer willing to sponsor your visa quota, and there's no self-petition path. But once you're there, the picture has genuinely changed: Saudi Arabia abolished the kafala system in 2025, replacing it with a contract-based model. You can now change employers through the Qiwa platform without your original sponsor's consent once your contract ends, or earlier in specific situations (unpaid salary, contract violations, or after 2 years of service) — a real, significant improvement in worker mobility and protection against the exploitative lock-in the old system enabled.
