A national long-stay visa for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals enrolled in a program in Portugal lasting more than one year — shorter programs use the related D5 visa instead. Document- and funds-based, no points test: confirmed enrollment, proof of monthly means at or above Portugal's minimum wage, accommodation, health insurance, and a clean criminal record. Applied for at a Portuguese consulate, then converted to a residence permit with AIMA (the immigration authority) after arrival — AIMA has enforced a strict 'complete file or nothing' rule at appointments since April 2025.
