The full guide

Norway's self-employment permit is aimed at people who will genuinely run their own business day-to-day from inside Norway, not passive investors — UDI explicitly checks that the business needs your physical presence to operate. You'll typically need to register a Norwegian limited company (AS) with at least NOK 30,000 in share capital deposited before registration, on top of separately proving you can support yourself while the business gets going. UDI reviews the plan's real economic viability, and a projected income that lands exactly on the minimum threshold is a known red flag rather than a safe pass.

Cost: NOK 5,400
