Norway actually runs two different tracks for researchers, and which one applies changes the numbers substantially. If you're coming on independent funding — a hosting agreement with a Norwegian university, university college, or institute, but paid by a foreign employer, a grant, or your own savings, rather than employed directly by the Norwegian institution — you need to show a modest self-sufficiency income of roughly NOK 15,200-15,500/month. If instead you have an actual Norwegian employment contract with the institution, UDI assesses you under the Skilled Worker category instead, where a role requiring a master's degree must pay at least NOK 624,700/year — more than triple the self-funded threshold.
