Category-based selection isn't a separate immigration program — it's a targeting mechanism inside the same Express Entry pool as ordinary Federal Skilled Worker/Canadian Experience Class draws. A few times a year, IRCC picks specific occupation categories or the French-language category and runs a draw that only invites candidates matching that category, often at a lower CRS cutoff than a general draw. You still need to meet base FSW/CEC eligibility and get a genuine CRS score in the pool — this route only affects whether, and how soon, you might get invited.
Cost: CAD $1,525 (processing + right of permanent residence fee) per principal applicant, plus biometrics — same as general Express Entry
