Important, upfront: the Business Innovation and Investment Program — the program this subclass 188 visa belongs to — closed to new applications on 31 July 2024. Only applications lodged before that date are still being processed by the Department. If you don't already have an application in progress, the Department's current pathway for business owners, investors, and entrepreneurs is the National Innovation visa (subclass 858, endorsement-based, no fixed capital tier) — check that route instead. This guide is kept for the small number of applicants with an existing 188/888 application already in the system.
